Every child online is a digital citizen, but true digital citizenship means empowering young people to think critically, participate safely, and shape their digital world responsibly. While digital citizenship once focused on internet safety, today’s students must learn to effectively use digital tools and navigate the ethical challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
AI is redefining what it means to be a digital citizen. From using generative AI for homework to spotting misinformation or befriending AI chatbots, students are engaging with AI for different purposes. There is a critical need for students to learn about this evolving technology. As digital tools transform education and society, we must also close the digital divide, ensuring all students, especially those in Nepal’s community and government schools, can access these critical skills equitably.
